Stop the Blame Game — 2 Comments

  1. Sorry, I don’t see where in the article anyone’s saying it’s the fault of the kids if they get assaulted.

Wouldn’t you want to protect your child from harm?

A person who passes out drunk at a party has taken a stupid, unnecessary risk. A person who rapes them is still a rapist and should be prosecuted.

In an ideal world kids would never come to harm and could do and wear what they like. We don’t live in that ideal world.

    • Greetings! The bit from the article in question is:

‘Chief executive Eileen Prior said: “Creating a link between school uniform and paedophilia seems to be a dangerous and unhelpful one for everyone involved.

“It implies that young people are in some way responsible for the activities of paedophiles, which is an extremely dangerous argument and one which has echoes of the comments sometimes made around rapists and women’s dress.’

Now, Brits are a little bit on the obsessive side when it comes to pedophilia. The last government here had it set up where if you so much as drove someone else’s child to school, you needed to pay £60/year to be vetted. That’s paying to prove that you’re innocent – not cool!

And I will agree with you – in an ideal world, bad things wouldn’t happen. I also agree that people do make stupid risks, and should think about the consequences of their actions. Unfortunately, we live in a lawsuit-happy crazyland (both sides of the pond) where, god forbid, many people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. *chuckles* I will do the best to protect my child by educating her, and teaching her to evaluate the potential consequences of her actions – it’s probably the best I can do for her by far. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by!
