Social Extremism — 1 Comment

  1. I really disagree with the reference to it being similar to a forum. I’ve been thinking about it, and really – with social networking, you’ve got what could be hundreds of friends. Facebook doesn’t just spit a name at you, or a title at you – you get a blurb and a picture and everything else. In a forum, if there’s a thread you want to avoid, or you’ve already read, you don’t click on it again. It’s there, but the content isn’t inflicted on you.

Facebook, on the other hand, continues to spit that blurb, picture, title, whatever at you ad infinitum, because it thinks you want to know. Because you’re interested. Even if you’ve already read it 15 gazillion times, and therefore are NOT interested any more :p

I guess I feel the same way about it as I do with all the random people Facebook keep trying to make me friend, coz they think I know them since I know someone that knows them, or like something they like or live in the same city they live in. Most of the time, I don’t know them. Or I don’t like them. Or I just don’t want to be friends with them. But that doesn’t mean I can stop them showing up on the list of people that Facebook thinks I should friend, which is incredibly freaking frustrating.

Do not like, Facebook, do not like.
