Got an Hour?
Tonight at 8:30pm your time is, apparently, Earth Hour. I’m not completely clear, but I think the idea is to turn off all non-essential power for that hour. As wiki says, it’s ‘to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.’ Yessssh, do say it as climate change – it makes me nod in agreement much more than global warming, as it’s more accurate.
We’re debating doing it, if only because it’s a good thing to do. As I explained to my husband, I suspect that the time is symbolic – it’s a time when many of us are curled up with our computers, our televisions, all sorts of kit burning up the watts as we attempt to snatch a second of relaxation between dinner and bed in the daily grind. And while it’s not a far step up from slacktivism, it’s still something – you’re actually inconveniencing yourself to make an important point about conserving our planet’s resources.
Anyways, give it a go if you can, and we’ll give it a go if we can. I admit, I rather fancy the thought of playing board games by candlelight – it’s been much too long since I last have. Nor do I need heavy lighting to play hide and seek with my child, or to have a nice family cuddle. 🙂
I think that’s it for today, since I forgot the other thing that I really wanted to blog about. Sheepish me, it slipped my mind…
Have a nice day!
