The Horror, the Glory, It’s…
EUROVISION!
As an American, Eurovision is the embodiment of awesome and Eurocheese all rolled into one. I don’t give a crap about whatever good nature and brotherhood it’s supposedly supposed to breed – I give a crap about horrible costumes, gouts of fire, and that burning mess known as Europop.
Oh sure, there’s totally some legitimately good songs, too; the 2008 Georgian entry is one of my favorite examples of ‘holy crap, good song!’. The Turkish entries are usually ridiculously awesome rock songs. I’m sure there are other examples, but I tend to forget them, ‘caauuuse…
I’m mainly there for the cheese. 2008 was my first year watching it, and was a bumper year for cheese. They got VRY SRS BSNS for 2009 because of our singing garbageman getting nil points in 2008, and then funned up again in 2010 (and not just ’cause of the Jimmy Jump incident!). 2011 is shaping up to be a year of bizarre outfits, at least, so… we’ll see. The first semi-final was pretty enjoyable – there was a bunch of hilariously horrible caterwauling, bad outfits, and a few legitimately good songs (I’m looking at you, Iceland, Serbia, Hungary, and Azerbaijan!).
The second, however… has both sets of twins… BWAHAHAHA. Seriously though, I want both Jedward and TWiiNS to go through, ’cause that’s so cheesy that I will die of utter joy. Though I’m calling the Jedward song Womanizer 2.0 – just listen and I suspect you’ll understand. But hai, whatever works, right? *laughs*
As for the UK.. thank you for finally having enough sense for picking a fucking known and liked act instead of the damned singing garbagemen, future Sugababes (groan), and ‘talent’ show rejects. I might not much like boy bands, but the UK does disturbingly well at putting together boy/girl bands, and Blue have a pretty solid following around the whole of Europe, from what I understand.
Anyways – fun fun!
Otherwise, my mind is on writing. I finished my entry for the Backwards Contest last night; it’s my first attempt at poetry since who knows when. Same deal applies as my entry for the Runaway Contest – come give me some hearty-votey love if you’re on Figment and you like what you see. 😉 I don’t know when my entry for the Modern Fairytale Contest will be up, but that appears to have completely open voting – you read the stories each day, and then vote on your favorite. Today’s heat is up, and there’s a couple of good ones, so read ’em if you want. Or not. But I’ll definitely be making puppy eyes for votes whenever mine goes up, ha ha.
And now, back to some worky grind. After all, a girl has got to earn her crust! 😉
