Sunshine, Lollipops..
If there is one word to describe the British summertime, I think most Brits know what that word is – glorious. If it’s sunny, then it’s glorious out; this is the only word anyone ever has for it. But it’s apt, because it is glorious out. It’s not too hot, there’s a nice breeze, and here at my ‘office’, we’re apparently getting a nice misting from the water cannon in the field behind my in-law’s paddock.
Suffices to say, it must be glorious if it tempts me away from this, my dearest of idiot boxes. That, and realizing that the worst of my head problems was tension headaches rather than hay fever – it makes it easier to treat appropriately//not forsake the outdoors. And my little one, having overcome her fear of grass, loves tromping up and down the yard and the paddock, and is very happy with her sand and water table (not included at current: water). It’s pretty nice all in, because we’re all spending more time outdoors to let her run off her tiny-intense energy, and really… it’s a good thing.
And, of course, we’ll be doing it this weekend in the social sense – it’s The Big Lunch this Sunday here in the United Kingdom. My husband and I haven’t been able of participating in years past because it fell on our anniversary weekend (which meant we were out of town enjoying some alone time), so we’re really keen to be able to go this time around. There’s actually three different ones in close proximity to our house, but we’re opting for the one ‘downtown’ put on by We Are Bedford. Besides the fact it’s making use of underloved, shouldn’t exist architecture, it’s also right next door to the Kite Festival, and will be featuring the official launch of a new local publication, The Bedford Clanger. Plus, outside of going down the pub, it’s probably the only way we’ll run into anyone we know socially, ha ha. Which will be nice – I still don’t have any real, ‘let’s hang out together at my house and crochet’ friends after four years of living here, so maybe, maybe… *chuckles*
So yes, good times. And sunblock – don’t forget the sunblock.
