Doo Dee Doo
Funny how time sneaks away when you’re… well… not doing much? That’s not strictly true – I’m collating a file, I spent a lot of this morning playing with the kidlette, and now? Now, I’m writing this, and waiting for more people to get on Google Plus so I can block them. Wha? I never tried Wave, I hated Buzz, so I’m not too thrilled at the prospect of yet another Google-based social network. So when an invite showed up in my inbox overnight (ironic, since I wasn’t intending to even peek that way for some time!), I figured I’d go ahead, see who I disliked that was already on there, and block them so they couldn’t pester me. I know, I know – I’m so nice.
Really though, I’m starting to trust Google less than I trust Microsoft. I feel this is saying something, considering that Microsoft has gotten its toosh sued off for being so monopolistic, but it’s in the same vein – I feel like Google is too overreaching. Having said that, two of my six tabs up currently are Google-based products (Reader and Plus; seeing a blog I mentioned the other day reminded me that I’d not posted yet) – the products are generally good, but that’s the thing. I don’t like being ‘dependent’ on any one company, and the ubiquitousness of their offerings is probably a cause for concern. I say this because I am especially mindful of how non-helpful their help files are, and how I’ve found it nearly impossible to find out where to get real help.
Ah well… at least, at first glance, Plus looks like it might give Facebook a run for its money. It’s fairly simple, it’s user-friendly, and while I’ve not dived in headfirst (I’m dabbling, ’cause I’m all timid and stuff <___<), it looks like what people want. If my Facebook stream is any indication, they should be concerned; pretty much 60-70% of posts yesterday were people asking for Plus invites. They will, like Microsoft, have to come off the high horse eventually and actually oh… kowtow to what the consumer wants, rather than blithely ignoring them, safe in their ubiquity.
… I really like that word today, don’t I? Ah well.
And really, I should get back to loving up this file. The poor dear has been neglected for months. *pets the folder* Have a good weekend, and don’t forget – England has a Women’s World Cup match tonight, so support our gals against those dastardly Kiwis tonight. And, of course, support the US team against Columbia tomorrow… mmm, so much football.
