A Short One for the Slacktivists
I mentioned the News of the World hacking scandal yesterday, which is currently unfolding like an especially stinky garment. The timeliness of this is bemusing, because the government consultation on Murdoch’s bid to by BSkyB is almost done… but there’s still just enough time to lodge complaints. Convenient, non?
If you too want to tell the British government to not let Rupert Murdoch and his poor journalistic integrity gain a further foothold, plesae consider signing this petition:
48 hours to stop Murdoch’s UK media takeover

For those in the States, Murdoch is behind Fox (Faux) News. While American news agencies are allowed to operate like it’s the Wild Wild West with all the biases and non-stop crazy (CNN, MSNBC – I’m looking at you too), there are actually laws and standards here which keep all most some agencies maintaining integrity. I like that there are places I can go to see proper journalism practiced, and is why I’ve generally been getting my news from British sources for long years. I want to see things stay this way, and kind of hope that this sort of public outcry will get the ball rolling on stopping such disgusting practices as flat-out lying, and of course, hacking the phones of the dead and missing for what I can only call ‘lulz’.
Anyways, go sign the petition. Make it clear to the British government that Murdoch doesn’t need a bigger foothold – thanking you kindly! 😉
