I’m not sure what I’ve done to myself today, but apparently my old nemesis Mr. Dizzy decided to rear his ugly head. Okay, I didn’t get as much sleep as I wanted last night (my husband woke up with a cramp, and after tending to him, I was awake), but I have had plenty of water and a decent breakfast.. hrmph. Now I’m opting for more water and a cup of coffee; hopefully that’ll do the trick. That, or I could be sick and in denial, ha ha. Oh well.
My only real irk is that my husband and I were planning an afternoon of shopping, which we’re going to put off until next week now. I’m not very stereotypically female in that respect; while I might have more shoes than I strictly need, I don’t generally like shopping (which incidentally, is probably part of why we live quite comfortably on supposed starvation wages!). But sometimes, one has to bite the bullet and gets bits and bobs, and even though this trip is nearly completely for pleasure (new stationary, anyone?), I still grumble and mutter at having to go through the whole rigmarole. I’m sure I’ll get over it once I have new shinies though… I guess!
Otherwise, the only thing on my mind is a funny little titbit from yesterday. My father-in-law is a Rotarian, which I consider rather boy’s club. And to reinforce that in my head, he was telling me about their German brother club having come over. Apparently, one of the guys from the club had a Russian wife, and everyone in my father-in-law’s club was making over how gorgeous she was. The first response out of my newly minted feminist kneejerk mouth? ‘How rude.’ But on the other hand, it’s nice to be able to tease him, especially considering that he’s of a certain age (pushing 70) and breed that normally forget that there’s more than the pretty outers to a woman. *giggles* He knows better, if only for the fact he’s got three strong and hardheaded ladies in his life, and concurred that he would have found other ways to judge this woman had he met her. He did make a fair point though, which is that if you only have a short time to meet, vet, and judge someone, the outer appearance does carry a lot of weight. I sigh slightly – I agree that giving a good appearance is important and respectful, but otherwise? Feh. I much prefer to judge people on the innards that will always be with them, rather than fickle fading physique. Not that I’m perfect at that, but I’m working on it.
Oh yeah, and the News of the World is being closed down… way to protect your last line of defence, Murdochs. I’m actually going to feel pretty darn bad for her when you throw her under the truck next to protect your asses. I just hope the government is wise enough to rule against letting Murdoch’s Sky buy out BSkyB after this – don’t forget to sign the petition if you’ve not. I’m definitely wary that they’ll try to argue that they should be permitted this buyout, seeing how they obviously control less media now… yech.
