Good News, Bad News
Good news, everyone! I now have my hot little hands on my new laptop. I have named her Julannah in memory of a long-missing friend, and hope that she will dance and sass just as brightly. I’m currently working through the process of getting my games and various programs on her, and it’s going very very nicely.
The bad news? Firstly, we didn’t manage to score a discount; they’re cracking down on that, and we didn’t want someone to lose their job over a few pounds. Nor was it super duper fun standing in store for over an hour while they tried to find someone who could get into the back room… though we did see and chat with a friend we’d not seen in years, so that tipped the balance to positive
I guess the worst news is that getting the new laptop set up is triggering migraines like woah. I’m curled up here at home preparing to shut down this baby down for the foreseeable future (though not quite yet – I’m still moving a few bits across), and the looking back and forth across the three different screens and their slightly different brightnesses is setting my head off to a ridiculous degree. I’ve already made it through one set of auras this morning, and I think another one is trying to rear its head. At least the pharmacy downstairs is going to have some feverfew in tomorrow, so that might help a bit.
Anyways, I’m going to miss this cranky old dear, and I think I’m going to leave her as-is once she’s retired later today. I might try to find an old install of XP and roll her waaay back so that she’s smoother and lighter when I pass her on to my daughter in the next year or two, but… we’ll see. For now? Cross-posting this to my other journal and trying to not look at too many things.
