Fhweedom! (Nearly)
It’s Friday, which means I have two seconds of that terrible song on repeat in my head. I guess it’s worth it, knowing that quality slacking time is nigh. Granted, I dedicate most of my free time to said noble art, but it’s what keeps me sane and happy. You don’t want to see me unsane and inhappy – it’s definitely not a pretty picture. 😉
I feel like I owe something after a week of semi-slackitude, but I don’t know what to offer (amongst curses at my fingers for their painful adjustment to the new keyboard). The kidlette proceeds apace doing kidletty things – she enjoys swimming, running about with her cart, and raising unholy ruckuses because she cannot make her wants and needs clear. I’m sure that there are all sorts of developments that I’m supposedly contractually obliged to be freaking out and cooing over… but that’s just not who I am. I admire that she is demonstrating a strong will and forceful personality, and that she will likely be a person that I can enjoy the friendship of once I’m done raising her up. I will say that I hope my dearth of sentimentality and abundance of anxiety will not drive me to be overly harsh on her…. parenting, what a delicate balance!
Speaking of, I’m vexed that my health has meant I’ve not been able to keep abreast of the riot aftermath here in the UK. One of my good friends has commented that we need to take a stand against the erosion of civil liberties and freedoms, and I agree. There’s a lot of frong here in the West with us prating on about how free we are, and then going and using the same techniques we decry as inhumane in places like Egypt and China. Though, I admit, I have a high degree of bemusement that the UK seems to have missed the entire prior government turning the country into a ridiculous nanny state, and how that’s done so much to encourage other countries to piggyback it. Nah, it’s definitely not all the UK’s fault – they just have a specific flavour of life invasion with all the tutting. I obviously prefer it to the US’ policy of shooting/stealing/hacking first, asking questions later; it’s scarier in some ways because the vast majority of the population is/was oblivious until some rather way out-seeming (but actually totally normal) crazy crap makes it out, like how phone companies were giving the government loads of information, etc.
Um… so yes! Hopefully my head will kindly unfunk enough for me to get caught up and figure out what actions I can take to help prevent the erosions of liberties, and y’know… encourage others to as well. For now, I should see a man about a meal, ’cause I’ve been poking at this off and on for hours. xD
