Having seen a few more fantastic pieces on the Occupy movement, I thought I’d share them here. Kudos to my friend Polly Chrome for being the main source; she’s got some incredibly erudite and interesting friends.
What Do They Want?

I agree with 99.5% of this piece. The .5% I disagree with emphatically applies to, unsurprisingly, the American men and women in the Armed Forces. I agree that there are definitely some people up to shady shit under the guise of serving their country; most Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are not. They are also the 99%, and are just doing their best to hang on to their jobs, the healthcare their family needs, and the shitty-shady-cheap life insurance that only pays out if they die in the line of duty.
Commentary on the First Statement of the Occupy Wall Street Movement

This is an opinion piece with some excellent considerations that I’m still chewing on. I agree that there are more things that desperately need to be addressed and, I hope, will come up in the course of dialog and further development of what America wants and need to correct her course.
Think Occupy Wall St. is a phase? You don’t get it

Even though CNN is getting a little bit of a slanty glance because of one of their reporters being kind of shite trying to make her own mark, this is a fantastic opinion piece that nails one of the myriad of points on the head – the media machine is stuck in the 20th century, and this protest is emphatically 21st century. It does not sit well with many sources because it isn’t easy to turn into bite-sized rhetoric easily disseminated between shots of war and (if we’re so lucky, but aren’t really) cute puppies.
As for my ‘local’ occupation? It gives me great pleasure and amazement to share that the Dallas occupiers have been given permission to set up a permanent camp at Pioneer Plaza in/about downtown Dallas. I find this incredibly auspicious, and I just continue to hope that things will continue on in such a peaceful and love-in manner. I can’t wait to hear how the weekend goes, and hope that lots of my friends make it out there. The weather is set to be fairly nice all day (89F top temp? Hells yeah! Well, after all those 100+ days, it is. *cough*), and it’s not like it’s terribly hard to get out there and see what’s what.
Anyways, good times.
