Another Day, More Links
Yes yes yes, isn’t it lovely and convenient that the world has a drastic and changing event going on riiiight when my brain seems to have hit complete shutdown? Sure, there are other things going on, but I feel deliciously wicked for peering inside the US’ borders so thoroughly when I normally aim for a more global view. I know there are plenty of other occupations in non-US countries, but I guess I feel like the fate of the world hinges on what comes out of the USA at this time.
Without further ado, here are a few goodies gleaned from friends yesterday:
Bank On It: They’re Scared
http://www.truth-out.org/bank-it-theyre-scared/1318020817
I like this piece because it calmly points out how fear is exploited to make something seem worse than it is. As we know, fear makes one irrational, and as someone already thoroughly irrational, I resent those who would try to make it worse. *grins*
OCCUPY (Insert Your City Here): Protesting Capitalism’s Crisis
http://bit.ly/niEMnP
I really like this piece because it is pro-capitalism. There are surely those protesting who want to see an end to capitalism and consumerism and all governments, and that’s fine. They’re as entitled to their opinion as anyone who thinks they’re stinky hippies (and I would say there is some degree of willful ignorance in both of those extremes). I know there are a lot of detractors of the protest who like to claim they’re completely undercutting themselves because they have Things™® While I personally have issue with out advertising exploits people by gouging a hole in them and trying to fill it with pointless piffle, I don’t begrudge people wanting Things™®. I do think that people in all layers of society should be more financially responsible, but I don’t think we’ll see a day when advertising is banned. But buying things? Sure, why not – as long as people understand that money and objects don’t necessarily generate happiness, then game on.
And now, back to trying to mainline caffeine (so groggy today, yuck), and put together my chore list for the day. I’d rather just crawl in bed and go back to sleep, but as I’m a m£&^%$f”£$ing adult, I probably should at least try. For yourselves, try to have a good Monday, and see you later!
