Tricksy Little Hobbits
If by Hobbits, one means politicians – Republicans, for starters:
Republicans Try To Fool #OWS Into Not Blaming Wall Street
http://www.politicususa.com/en/republicans-fool-ows-not-blaming-wall-street
And then the same-ish story again here, if you wanted another take on it. Of course, it isn’t quite as beyond the pale as what has happened here:
Occupy London’s anger over police ‘terrorism’ document
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/dec/05/occupy-london-police-terrorism-document
Wait… some people camping out in London are on the same page as the Farc and al-Qaeda? Really? I wasn’t aware that free speech and a desire of accountability required listing these wonderful people as terrorists! Next, the Brits will pick their politicians the same way the Republican party do in the States:
Why Republicans Embrace Simpletons and How it Hurts America
http://news.yahoo.com/why-republicans-embrace-simpletons-hurts-america-192501947.html
I am aware that some people would presume to lump me with that lot, insomuch that I do not support the current educated stupid collegiate machine. It is not about intelligence or learning – it’s a freaking degree factory, and it’s your money being tossed away, and for what – a go nowhere office job with stagnant wages because you’ve been raised to believe unions are El Diablo? So no, I do not support the ignorant, educated stupid or otherwise – I embrace people who espouse intelligence regardless of supposed education level. I expect people to fact check to some degree, not blurt out scary bullshit. That’s why I will probably never vote Republican – I am much too smart to fall for a vaguely charismatic moron. Same reason I’m not fond of voting Democrat either – it’s basically all the same as long as American insists on a two party system. You’ve told you have to believe in/want to support one or the other, and that’s just as stupid as potatoe and non-existent nuclear weapons. Anyways, that’s obviously why there are people on both sides, the supposedly only sides, running scared:
Fear and Loathing in the Wealthiest 1%
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/12/06/1042648/-Fear-and-loathing-in-the-Wealthiest-1
I know, I know – it picks on Republicans more than anything, but that’s because the Republicans have long been the party of the rich, and the rich-to-be (who are usually much closer to poverty than wealth, but believe that supporting the benefit of the rich means they will too be rich some day). I’m sure they aren’t the only ones that have profited from Congressional insider trading, but I would not be surprised if they made up a significant chunk of said beneficiaries. So they are right to be scared – people have pulled their heads from their ‘safe’ holes and have realized that something is rotten in the state of Denmark America most of the western world. And if it wasn’t, we’d not see stories like this:
U.N. Envoy: U.S. Isn’t Protecting Occupy Protesters’ Rights
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/02/occupy-wall-street-un-envoy_n_1125860.html
Erm… you know you did done fucked up if the U.N. is getting on your tits for not treating folks right. Violent attacks against peaceful protesters, utilization of obscure health and safety codes, or twisting the intent of such into tight little balls – all of these work to strip protesters of their right to free speech. Not that people get that, seeing how the police in several cities are doing their best to ignore the first amendment and recent rulings that ensure that the right to tape the cops is still a valid expression of said amendment. I admit – I have no idea what the U.N. can do outside of write strongly worded letters to the US Government, but I celebrate them recognizing that the response is not proportional or appropriate.
Anyhoos, enjoy your food for thought, and I’ll be back with more tomorrow!
