Back to the Grind
Today is a day that marks the next chapter in ‘traditional’ occupations:
Protesters plan to occupy Worth Avenue on Saturday

OWS to open second camp in NYC

The former starts at noon local (or 5pm GMT, so an hour and a half). I’ve not seen a particular time for the Duarte Park occupation, but I think that it will be interesting to see what happens knowing that the police have been well-informed in advance. Really though, they could stand to learn a lesson from Occupy Portland:
Occupy Portland Outsmarts Police, Creating Blueprint for Other Occupations
http://www.portlandoccupier.org/2011/12/15/occupy-portland-outsmarts-police-creating-blueprint-for-other-occupations/
What the Portland occupiers did is nothing short of genius. It sounds incredibly good-natured, but without letting brutality and intimidation drive them off. I would love to see more camps try this when the police come a-knocking to send them packing.
Thankfully, not all cities are out to get their protesters, as this shows:
Cleveland and Pittsburgh City Councils Officially Support Occupy Wall Street

It’s nice to see cities offer some support, even it’s not carte blanche for the protesters to set up home/shop to work from. It would be especially nice if the US opted to acknowledge and offer succor to these people when half the country is poor//in poverty. At least Americans can take heart that they haven’t been branded terrorists by their government yet, unlike the poor folks in London, in Manchester, and so on.
Anyways, it will be interesting to see what tonight and tomorrow bring. 🙂
